The Birth of the Earl Simmons Drink

In a break from some of MAEKAN’s long-form stories comes the MAEKAN Beat, something we liken to as “visual radio.” This story is about a drink that started in Long Beach, but ended up in Hong Kong (at Yardbird’s original SOHO location). Part coffee, part tequila, the drink took on a life of its own after one sleepy bar patron couldn’t keep his eyes open. The drink’s characteristics are an ode to a legendary rapper. Meet Earl Simmons.
